THIS SIDE UP, FRAGILE, HANDLE WITH CARE

There is a growing need to rethink “how we ship,” especially with fragile materials like glass, where transportation becomes part of the making process. This work focuses on the method of packing glass using layered Polyether foam, where the object is placed between sheets and stabilized with wooden skewers tracing its outer contour. Rather than simply protecting the piece, this process holds it in suspension, balancing pressure and empty space, with each contact point carefully determined by its fragility. What remains is a precise negative imprint in the foam, a soft mold that records the object’s volume, weight, and vulnerability. In this work, the crate itself becomes the final piece, presenting this system of support, containment, and translation as a visual composition. The absent object is replaced by its trace, shifting attention to the material and spatial logic of transportation as an integral part of the artwork.
